Obvious stuff. Don't Over interperate. If s/he's drawing about guns and knives stabbing and shooting people, either s/he's exposed to the real thing or too much adult TV. If s/he's drawing explicit sex acts, either s/he's exposed to the real thing or too much adult TV. FInd out which and treat accordingly.

But trying to interperate rainbows and trees and cars and trains in a Freudian way is not going to get you anywhere.

What comes out of anyones mind is what has gone in somewhere along the line. Art is a great way for children to vent their emotions as they are taught to not talk about certain things. Just be careful and try not to project your own feelings and experiences onto their art. Ask them what it means and give them a chance to talk.
