I saw the movie last night and it is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I totally agree with you. I remember the day he died well and gave it 4 out of 4 stars. My brother who was 3 gave it 4/4 and my 16 year old nephew gave it 3/4. Do yourself a favor and see the movie. I am also shocked by the vehemence and hatred expressed for people once revered and loved. Society has declined.
JFK and particularly RFK had a profound effect on my life. I was a teenager when Bobby Kennedy was killed. At age ten, I, on my own, went to JFK headquarters and got and passed out campaign fliers. His book, Profiles in courage, influenced deeply the rearing of my children. I taught them to always have the moral courage to stand up for what they believed even if they
were the only one or were ostracized. To stand up for good and the underdog, to be non conformist and dare to be different, I taught them buy having the courage to speak up boldly even if they were alone, they might give someone else who feels the same way but who is too scared or shy to speak up the courage to speak up too.
I wanted to go into politics and read thick political books like "American Democracy in World Prospective" while peers read romance novels. (I got married instead subsequently.) But it was Bobby who captured my heart and soul. I memorized many of his speeches and some I still use and recall the words though it has been nearly 40 years ago. He so inspired me with his deeds and his words. He wrote me a letter.
Concerning the movie, although I was disappointed there was not more focus on his life and footage at points during the movie, in the end, the film triumphed tying it all together. The film maintained my interests and had some great performances. But it is the emotions which it wrought within me at the end which cause me to give it a 10 and call it one of the best movies
I have seen recently.
I was very surprised at the extreme emotions that cursed through me, particularly at the end of the film. First the anticipation of what was coming caused me to tense up. Watching that final night play out like I saw so many years ago brought me right back to the moment it really happened.
I could not stop crying. Indeed, I kept putting my face in my hands and really crying hard. I had to stifle back sobs that threatened to escape and embarrass me. I could not stop wiping the tears so it brought me back to that moment when America saw its 3rd assassination. Those words that so inspired and called us forth to be a compassionate, just, peaceful nation that strived to mends bridges and really look at how we spent our limited time and what we might accomplish would never again be there to guide and remind us of what a better world we might have. With him, those hopes seemed to die. It wasn't long when the wealthy elite began to escalate destruction of our country.
Both JFK and RFK had the unique ability to really make us look at ourselves and call forth the best within ourselves. When we lost these leaders of insight, intelligence, and empathy, we as a country lost a lot..our very souls and trust. It was a time in history of men of courage, idealism, and good mores that soon fled from all but those who still recall that "each time a man stands up for an ideal, acts to improve the lot of others and strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope and that ripple
crossing a million centers of energy and daring can build a wall that can sweep away the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance" and those who are mindful that "few will have the greatness to bend history itself but each of us can work to change a small portions of history and within those acts will be written the history of this generation."
"It is from numberless, diverse acts of courage", he said. I didn't want to leave the theatre, but to reflect on all I was feeling. I continued to cry for 15 minutes. I wanted to do better in my life and what I did with it, I regretted mistakes I'd made with my limited time on earth and I wanted to forgive those I may have hated in the past and try harder to be better.
Any movie that can evoke that in a person is atypical. It made me think how much we really lost that day as a nation and as a people and as a generation. Never did we regain that involvement so common in that generation and that
idealism and work to truly create the world we envisioned. When I look at the state of the US today and reflect upon what a different path that might have taken us on, when I see the
apathy now so common, and mourn for the loss of who we were.
I do catch glimpses of that spirit of peace, of activism, of those who did not sell out to become the yuppies who so damaged their the next generation xers. I see that so many of those in our activist community are baby boomers..though I see hope in the youth, more involvement is needed. This movie is one I will think about after it ends.
Though the man it is titled after is not present very much in
the movie, he is what one takes away somehow. If we could each act more like he inspired us to once, we could be the change we are looking for instead of a leader or party..it is we the people missing from this democracy. There will never be another Bobby but there can be a lot of new Bobbys putting as much into being one themselves as he was "a good and simple man who
saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it"
The problems are all still here, what is missing is the Bobby in each of us. Remember his tag line
"some men see things as the are and say why, I dream things that never were and say why not." We need more hard working dreamers not a lot. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Meade. Two other great men of the day had words to recall. I was inspired back then
by Humphrey, Hubert who said "What we need are critical lovers of America - patriots who express their faith in their country by working to improve it." The one who also was killed that year King Jr., Martin Luther reminded us that "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." and two of old Bryce, James heralded that "Our country is not the only thing to which we owe our allegiance. It is also owed to justice and to
humanity. Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong." Edmund Burke uttered" The only thing necessary for the triumph
of evil is for good men to do nothing." and then our destiny so long forgotten. Finally, know that "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children (America), the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done." Reagan, Ronald
Though this posts seems less about the movie and more about words of men now gone, it is in this way actually that the power of the movie shines forth. How often does one see a movie
that remains on one's mind with the potential to spark within the hearts of the viewer the answer to our current dilemma for it speaks to remind us that just as then so is it now that we are the change we have been waiting and praying for. Be a person of moral courage and speak out boldly for what is right to speech against injustice, stand up for cherished ideals, and act to improve people's lives when and where you are. Go to this movie to spark that desire within you.

there is not any reliable clarification for each person to care about Maria Shriver's opinion. The Kennedys are a sputtering political dynasty that would want to fade away already. As a family contributors they have extra skeletons of their closet than Freddie Kreuger. For all their attempt & time in workplace, the Kennedy prolonged family contributors has done quite somewhat no longer something except gaining and protecting political workplace. Even JFK became no longer a efficient president. His legacy is his charm and air of secrecy, no longer his achievements as president. The surviving prolonged family contributors doesn't actually have charm or air of secrecy upon which to style a legacy. Begone, Kennedys, begone!!!

The Kennedys all had, and still do have an evil streak that causes harm to themselves.
Rose Kennedy would hire people to do her yard and then not pay them. She didn't like the little people.
Little John was a big improvement over all the other Kennedys.
BUT..... JFK WAS GREAT!!!!
He was the first president to Cut Taxes on working people.
The Democrats still hate him for that.

Sweetie, a film is not always factual. Do you really want a lot more John and Jack Kennedys? Alcoholics, racked with std, hooked on pain-killers, who espouse family values whilst beating their wife(Jack Snr) and screwing anything that moved in a skirt(JFK)! Most of the problems that you call a curse, come from a decadent life with too much money, too much power and surrounded by yes-men.
Bobby was the only decent member of the family who was involved in politics, and he was flawed, just as we all are. He at least had morals and principles. The young lad who died in the plane crash 2 years ago, also seemed a pretty decent type of guy. However, I wouldn't want many more Ted, Jack or Johns, there is enough greed, ego and evil in the world today, without wishing for more.

If you learn anything from history it is that people with power and money feel some immunity from harm. Perhaps their ability to take risks is what propels them to the top in the first place. But inevitably, the risks catch up to them at some point, and they find that they're no more invincible then the next guy. They may have more enemies (John and Bobby). They may have a propencity for thrills (John Jr.) They may think they're above the law (Joe Sr., and others). However, they are all just flesh and blood, and subject to the same risks we all face (or choose not to).

There was another brother (John I believe) that was killed in beginning of WWII. He was the one that was going to be the first Kennedy president. Great reputation and smart guy.
You are right about the family giving so much... With all they have gone through only to have the son's taken much to early is a shame.
Makes me think Teddy was adopted.

I was alive during the Kennedy era. Yes, they did some good for this country but their private lives were another thing.
They cheated on their wives, neglected their kids, and ruled by power and money.
Look at Ted, he got away with murder of a young girl long ago. Look at the statistics on that and you will see he is the only one that could have drove her into the water. They studied this long after the fact, when he could not even be held for the crime and they came to the conclusion he did it.
Many try to cover the bad stuff the Kennedy's have participated in. They always tried to put them in a good light. Look at Michael getting off for raping and killing the young girl next door with a golf club.
I can tell you this, much of the bad must be true. Because if you give off negative energy it comes back to you TENFOLD. You will suffer as they did.

The Kennedy curse- yes I do believe there is a curse, but not a mystical one. A man made curse. Someone obviously didn't like the Kennedy's. Just like people didn't like Lincoln. They stood for something far more greater than any other politician, and were killed for it, either by people of their own government or random acts of violence. You be the judge. Sounds like a good movie though.

I haven't seen the movie, yet, but I look forward to seeing it. I don't believe in the "Kennedy Curse", though. Bad things happen to families all the time. We just happen to know more about the tragedies in the Kennedy family, though, because they're in the spotlight.
