For example, if a pass is completed for 20 yards, and the receiver gains another 30 on the ground, are the total yards gained counted as passing yards or a combination of both?

Yes, in your example the stats would say 50 passing yards.

Now there would also be a stat that showed 30 YAC (yards after catch) but the passing yard stat would count all yards from the line of scrimage gained from the play.

yes every single yard is counted as passing yards even say the 30 yard run the receiver gets after say a 20 yard pass play and they count towards the reception yardage as well for the receiver so instead of a 20 yard pass completion from qb to wr it would include the 30 yard run so the total would be a 50 yard pass from qb to wr and the 30 yards afterwards are known as yards after the catch aka yac

After a pass a completed, every yard gained by the receiver will be counted as passing yards... these yards are commonly known as YAC (yards after catch).

It is both passing and the yards gained after the catch. Thats why its a screwed up stat. If the qb hits his half back for a one yard pass and he runs 95 yards for a td, the qb gets credit for a 96 yard pass play.

Yes that play would be counted as a 50 yard pass. The qb would be credited for 50 passing yards and the reciever would be credited for 50 recieving yards.

Yes, all the yards are counted as passing yards. But there is an individual stat for the reciever Yards After Catch (YAC) to keep track of what he does as a reciever, after he catches the ball.

Passing yards includes both. There is another stat(Yards after catch) for the yards gained after a catch.

the 2nd. If the line of scrimmage is the 50-backyard-line, and the receiver catches a pass at around the 40 and gets to the 30 till now being tackled, then that's a 20-backyard reception. the comparable is genuine if he catches it precise on the 30 and right this moment gets tackled or is going out of bounds. .
