well they do. if you're on an ibm computer, hold down ALT and then type numbers, like "ALT 666" makes the symbol Ü, and you can keep typing in different numbers and i think eventually you will get the cents symbol. besides, people don't usually write out the cents symbol. if you're going to write "55 cents", you usually write it as "$.55".

I think maybe it's because the dollar symbol may be more universal than the cent symbol....This is my guess though...I may not be right.
