Im working towards my Criminal Justice degree in college, however I was just wondering, if I am in the Criminal Justice program, will I be able to take a class in the "Psychology" category? Like the class is Basic Psychology, but it's NOT part of my core or fundamental classes. Can I still take this without it being a class in the CJ program, or do I only take classes in my program?

Well, you can, but the question is do you really want to?
Why take classes you must pay for and you don't need? All it is gonna do is delay your graduation. Think of it from the consumer point of view. Why pay hundreds of dollars for somthing that you really don't need at all. Intro to psych isn't gonna teach you much except some vocab and some intro principals anyway. Why waste the time and effort?
It sounds like you may have some interest in it, but my suggestion would be then to just read some books about it and don't bother taking the class.
Most people don't go to college with real goals in mind. I see alot of people who take classes that they "like" but don't really need. "Oooo philosophy is real interesting, I'm taking that even though I'm going to school to be a computer programmer"
Do yourself a favor. Take what you need and get out of college as fast as you can so you can start making some money. If later on you still have an interest then go back and take somenight classes for personal enrichment.

You are required to take classes in other areas of study such as psychology. I was a Sociology major and had to choose two other fields of study to take classes in to graduate. I chose anthropology and communication. Criminal Justice students should take some classes other than just CJ choices. Psychology would be an excellent field for a future criminal justice graduate to take. You are not limited to your field of choice only.

that depends on the college/university. for the most part, you should be able to take any class you want to. psychology seems like a good course to take in your major no matter what you want to do with your degree. Law, police work, profiling/detective work, CSI; all of them seem to have an advantage of knowing how the mind works and how people think. I say go for it.

There is no way you can get a proper answer on this question at Yahoo. You have to go to your advisor at the university you attend and see what their policy is. Every school is different, and every program is different. Ask the people who know - the administrators at your school - not the people who are just wildly speculating!

You should talk to your academic adviser, it cost a lot of money to take a class especially if you don't need it.
