Even more important, turn off remote desktop. Go into your control panel and double-click on the system icon. THen click on the remote tab and disable remote desktop. Also if you have a blank password for any of the accounts on your computer, you need to assign passwords to them.

1) Keep the computer off when not there
2) Lock down the resources on your computer to prevent this.

3) Set up firewall programs on your PC. Microsoft has a built in firewall, other products such as Sygate are also available.
