to the hospital and they sent me home saying that my cervix was effaced and that I was almost 2 cm dilated and suggested bedrest for the next 3 weeks and no sex. I've been having contractions but they don't last for more than an hour and they go away, and I feel incredible preassure down there. My due date is January 21st do you guys think I will deliver soon??

100 percent effaced? and 2 cm dilated... you should be expecting pretty damn soon... i would wait for the contractiosn to be 5 mins apart tho

as for the sex... i dunno man we went till the day she delivered... it helps contractions happen.

as long as it isnt high risk pregnancy should be ok... if ya due date is the day after my birthday... dont worry. but if you start to get really close contractions... then call ya doc

was it a doc or triage nurse that sent you home? cuz ppl keep saying do what the doc said but if it was a nurse.. be sure to ask ya doctors cuz the nurses we had to deal with were dumasses

The most important part of your question is the info that you are 31 weeks - for the baby's health you want to do exactly what your doctor says. Even a few days can make some difference as to how healthy the baby will be at birth. Being effacted and dialated early is not too unusual so don't panic, just listen to the doctors and avoid anything that might push early labor to give your baby the best start. See what happens after 3 wks bedrest and keep in touch with your doctor any time you spend obeying doctors orders or asking questions now is an investment in your family's health and there are no stupid questions! Hang in there, ask friends & family to support you to get things done and keep from being bored while you are on your back and staying as calm as possible.

You didnt mention how effaced you were but you should know that you can be effaced and dilated like that for months. The contractions you are feeling is called Braxton Hicks contractions. They are "fake" contractions that you actually have your entire pregnancy, you just dont always feel them but they help prepare your body for childbirth. Real contractions will cause your ENTIRE stomach to become rock hard and will last at least 1 minute in length. No, they wont be at regular intervals at first but they will regulate over the hours. You should go to the hospital when contrax are 5mins apart or less or if your water breaks. Just do what your doctor said and stay on bedrest and try not to worry, the baby doesnt need the added stress. Congrats on your baby and Good Luck =)

You want to do exactly what your doctor has told you, and no sex if there is a risk of pre-term delivery, in your case there is. A baby is considered premature anytime before 37 weeks. Did the hospital give you anything to stop the contractions? They should have. I had it twice with my last child, because I started going in to labor early. Her due date was Nov 1st and I delivered her on Oct 4th, they did not try to stop her that time, she was ready. I did have my son at 32 weeks and he is a very rambunches 4 year old, so if you do deliver early there is a good chance everything will be fine.

Most likely you will deliver early. Just do what they ask you and stay in bed. You want to keep the baby in there as long as possible, 31 weeks is still a little too early to deliver, you don't want to have to leave your baby on the hospital. Goodluck! Hope everything turns out well and you deliver full term, and remember more than 37 weeks is full term so don't worry.

it's possible but you must do as your doctor says. The reason he has said no sex is because the sperm can start labour which is why they say have plenty in the later stages of your pregnancy you on the other hand are only 31 weeks you don't want that baby before 36 just don't take the risk mate enjoy the time to rest you are so gonna need it when bubba arrives
Good Luck

Good Luck..not sure if you'll deliver soon..but I'm just saying don't worry if you do... they do so much for premature babes these days.
I was due on the 10th of January with my daughter, she was born at 31 weeks on the 11th November!! She's 3 now and a little Madam....no health problems whatsoever!
Good Luck once again, and hope all goes OK!

You probally will go early. Did they give you anything to make sure you don't contract. My sister in law got contractions at 35 weeks and they had her take some sort of pill every day, to not contract. Defently bed rest and no sex. You don't want to have this baby now. It is too early.Make sure your doctor is doing everything to make sure you don't go into labor! good luck and hope you make it to 37 weeks and have a safe and happy delivery!

Yea but your baby isnt ready to be delivered its too soon. Make sure your dr. tries to stop your contractions. You need to get up to labor and delivery and demand to be put on something to stop your contractions and some steroids to help mature your childs lungs or your baby will end up in the Neo natal nursery and you dont want that. Your baby isnt ready to be born its too soon. They shouldnt have sent you home. Get back there and get on bed rest meds to stop contractions and early labor and steroids. Goodluck to you and your baby. I hope it all works out okay. Both my kids i was on bed rest with and meds to stop it and steroids and they are both healthy as can be. My oldest i was in labor from 32 weeks and they held me off until i was 36 weeks or so. And my youngest i had at 36 weeks and his lungs werent mature yet and he was in the Neo natal for 3 weeks. Please think about what i said. Its too soon and every day counts.....Your womb is the best place for your baby until he or she can be healthy and survive outside the womb.
