Good grief, all these people saying a 2-year college isn't a real college. These are probably the same people that feel if you're over 18 you're too old to go to school. *rolls eyes*

A couple people pretty much said it. Community Colleges aren't places where students live. No one moves to go to a community college, so you really don't need a frat or sorority. Certain community colleges do have academic societies (like the one I'm in, go figure for not being a "real" college), like Phi Theta Kappa which has been around since the 1920's.

In any case, I'd lay it heavily on the non-resident population. The 2-year I graduated from had a lot of younger people - I don't think age is really a factor. And as far as it being due to not being a real college... you're seeing morons at their best right there. If these people actually make it through college it will be a miracle for them, since they obviously have no clue the work that needs to be put in.

Community colleges are often attended by students trying to "test the waters" of college because they aren't sure what subject interest them, or they didn't have good enough grades in H.S. to get into a 4-year university. Two years of hard work and good grades at a community college can be a ticket into a major university.

Also, many adults take community college classes because of the more flexible schedules available. (i.e. night classes) Adults aren't going to join a frat or a sorority, even if community colleges did have them.
