Food themes...

First things first, always ask the mom to be if she has any food issues (allergies, gestational diabeties, etc.). Then see if she has any interesting cravings, like if she has been dying for mexican, do a whole tex/mex theme. I've also been to one that had all of the traditional "preg foods" like pickles and ice cream, chinese, etc. but they weren't mixed together yet. And then there is the ever famous(and disgusting) diaper guess. you melt different chocolate candy bars in a diaper and the guests have to smell, lick, eat to guess what type of candy bar it is. Kinda nausiating but alot of fun.

I know you asked for food themes, but I wanted to share this great tip we used at a friend's baby shower - - we asked the guests on the invitation to bring a package of diapers to be entered into our drawing. We put together a large, inexpensive basket full of body lotions, candles, etc... We asked for size 1 on the first 10 invites, size 2 on the next 10, and so on. It was a great gift idea and they loved the basket. As to the food, I would suggest finger foods - - nothing too messy, just easy to eat.

For the latest one we threw, we did a celebrity/movie theme and did popcorn, movie candy, hot pretzels. For games, came up with a match the baby name to the star. Favors made a cd of movie songs. Oh and did another game with movie trivia - movies with babies in them. And for the favor cd, did name that tune and movie, and just played a snipit from the favor.

besides the diaper game we took the lables off of baby food and passed them around. each person wrote their answers and whoever guesses the most right wins! our "prizes" were gifts for the mother with a little box of chocolate for the guesser
