who overlooked the fact that Russia is located in Europe and Asia and why does it bother you? i am sure there are some French people that live in Asia, but that does not make all French people Asian. What's the problem and what's your point?

Russians are Vikings... Okay? Strange person answering the question?... Kiev was originally founded as a village by the Vikings as the best crossing place on the River Dnepro. Kiev was originally called Kiev Rus... Rus is a common Viking Name. When this occurred Moscow did not exist.... The Kiev Rus people moved north into what we now call Russia, but in those days... anything North and East of Kiev was known as Rus(sian). Russian actually grew out of what we know today as Ukraine (the largest country wholly in Europe - Russia is Eurasian). The 'True' Russians occupy an area from Byelorussia to the Urals, North of Kiev and South of Arkangel. The rest are basically conquered lands. Add'n. 'True' Russians consider themselves to be Blond haired and blue eyed (a somewhat biased point of view I must add - as Russians are a very mixed race... Mongolian, Siberian, European, etc), so many consider that Asian Russians are not 'True Russians'.

It all depends whether you are talking about Russians as an ethnic group or citizens of Russia. I think, most often it is the first one. And as such, Russians are an East Slavic ethnic group. Early ancestors of the Russians were East Slavic tribes who migrated to the East European Plain in the early middle ages. Ethnic Russians known as Great Russians began to be recognized as a distinct ethnic group in the 15th century, when they were referred to as Muscovite Russians, during the consolidation of Muscovy Tsardom as a regional power. Between 12th and 16th century Russians known as Pomors migrated to Northern Russia and settled White Sea coasts. As a result of the migrations and Russian conquests (following liberation from the Mongol Golden Horde domination) during 15th-16th centuries Russians settled the Volga, Urals and Northern Caucasus regions. Between 17th and 19th centuries Russian migrants settled the vast sparsely inhabited areas in Siberia and Russian Far East. A major role in these territorial expansions and migrations was played by the Russian Cossacks.
According to most ethnologists ethnic Russians originated from the earlier Rus' people (East Slavs of Kievan Rus), and gradually evolved into a different ethnicity from the western Rus people who became the modern-day Belarusians and Ukrainians.

Some ethnologists maintain that Russians were a distinct Slavic group even before the time of Kievan Rus. Others believe that the distinguishing feature of the Russians is not primarily their separation from Western Rus, but that ethnic Russians are a mix of East Slavic and non-Slavic (for example Finno-Ugric, Germanic, Baltic) tribes.

So, as you see, Russians are Europeans.
However, when you say Russians meaning citizens of Russian Federation, there are certainly a big number of Asians. But they usually associate themselve with their ethnic group.

I have a close friend from Russia... and she's never refered to her country as being in Asia... I wonder if it has anything to do with Russian culture and upbringing....

Russians are Russians, and that is how they see themselves which is really all that matters, is it not? As for the Viking reference, the Viking culture is a long dead culture. What's left of them has been assimilated into mostly Scandinavian and a few other cultures.

Ya, Russia is in Eurasia... I guess its the fact that they have more European physical features than Asian features..... Like I've seen blonde haired, blue-eyed Russians but never blonde-hair, blue-eyed Indians or Chinese people, unless they just colored their hair and wore color contact lenses

Try saying that to a Russian!
