Actually, Jack (King Louis XVI) and Jill (Queen Marie Antoinette) didn’t fetch anything together. The nursery rhyme is about the beheading (lost their crown / head) of the two in 1793.

Do a search and see what you find on ‘Nursery rhyme origin’. You will be amazed.

What, you think they were picking berries as well? Who the hell puts a well on top of a hill anyway? Surely that would just a) make it harder to get water every day and b) require more effort to dig down to the river in the first place.
