I've done it before and it worked but I tried today and it gets 25% through the process of formatting the drive and re-initialisng it and the computer just turns itself off. Any ideas?

No, it's not the battery. It's nothing obvious. I've done it before and on different systems and never had any problems

Check the disk to make sure there are no scratches on it, because the computer wont be able to read all of the information and will quit if it cant. Second, there may be something on your harddrive that may be corrupted and keeping the recovery from completing. The best way to solve the problem is to take it to someone that can hook it up and do a computer diagnostic on it to pin-point the exact problem you are having.

Make sure you are plugged up to the wall, and not on battery power. You may be running out of juice on the battery. Also you may have a bad drive.

I think your HD may be going out. Toshiba is the best and the recovery CD's work everytime. Sounds like a hardware failure someplace.

Toshiba 1-800-400-4172
