I work in a hospital, and I am the one who goes to new mothers and gets information in order to print the fancy "complimentary" birth certificates they give to parents.

I went in and spoke with a lady this morning, and the name she said she was going to name her newborn daughter sounded like "Dee-ar-ee-ah" when she spoke it. I asked her how to spell it so we could print it correctly, and I kid you not, she said "D-I-A-R-R-H-E-A". I thought I had misheard her, and while choking back laughter, asked her to re-spell it for me. Nope....I heard right the first time.

As if that wasn't bad enough, their last name is BROWN!!!

Oh, stop! You have to be making this up. (Don't you?) Please tell me you're making this up...

If you're really not making this up, I would consider getting a dictionary to keep in your office. You could then show the woman - or any others like her who you may encounter in the future - this word in the dictionary. Of course, you should probably be prepared to read the meaning to her, since she is obviously illiterate!

You could think of this as your service to mankind. : )

I work in a hospital too & I totally believe you. I check the census every day & there is at least one if not more of these type names on it. I can't even imagine what these people are thinking & I'm afraid to find out. Sometimes there are unusual names though that are very pretty just to play advocate. One last week was named Summer Rain....(omit last name) I thought that was pretty. ♥

lol! Yes, I have heard a few of my peers wanting to call their kids Yugoslavia... What is the world coming to? Sure, the people don't have to name their kids Joe or Jane, but some of those names are just not right... Can't they think of how much sh*it (no pun intended) the kids will go through when going to school and stuff? Maybe it's just attention, a cry for help, or just the need to be an "individual"... :-)

I too work in a hospital and would have to agree, soon to be parents need to be forced to take a class about naming their new baby! There was a set of twins born and they were named Orangejello (oran-jah-lo) and Yellowjello (yell-oh-jah-lo). What is wrong with people naming their kids these horrible things? I would hold resentment against someone for naming me something stupid!

That is too funny, but I feel sorry for all the kids who have stupid parents who try to be creative in their naming of children. When I did my OB clinical (I'm a nurse) a lady names her son Handsome Debonair ( he was not a cute baby).....It sad ens me, these kids will never be taken seriously in life, who would vote for a president named that???? I would think twice before hiring a tax consultant named Diarrhea.....

Maybe she didn't realize that the spelling was acutally the spelling of diarrhea. Maybe you should have enlighten her and she would have realize that she was about to not only make one hellovah mistake but also that the child would grow to hate her for the rest of her life

Oh good grief. People are insane...Seriously did she even think about when this child goes to school!!!! Did you try to explain to her? I mean how can you just let someone name their child that w/out finding out if they understand the consequences. Maybe she was giving the girl up for adoption?

That poor kid will be bowing her head in shame her whole life - what a hex to put on a child. Are you sure you heard this right?

I don't care for the name, but to each it's own. It's a good thing that you didn't laugh in her face, you probably would have gotten reported by the new mother, you may have thought it was funny, but I guarantee you, she wouldn't have.
