I feel really sad and angry that in so many movies, people use God's name to swear with. And for what? For money?! I have thrown out all my movies where they abuse God's name, including my very precious collection of Vin Diesel movies, after I heard him saying that he hates God in "Pitch Black." Isn't it time we stood up for God? What will we say to God one day when He asks us about this? He stands up for us EVERY DAY. What possible excuse do we have? How can we stand up for God? How can we make a difference? That is my big question to all of you....

I'm not offended or angered at all.

Before the trash people come, please go get your copy of "Pitch Black" and mail it to me. None of my local stores have it in stock and I am dying to see it.

After you do that, you may want to go get a reality check and then take a chill pill.

The only people who can say they have never been angry with God are liars. Anger is a human emotion, and as far as I know ... we are all human.

And God is probably up there right now wondering why you are doing such trifiling things like tossing out movies and blathering on about "standing up for God" rather than getting off the computer and out into the real world and taking action to make the world a better place.

Did you feed any hungry people today? Buy a homeless person some gloves and a hat? Volunteer? Donate time or money? Take in a stray animal? Help someone who needed it? Teach an adult to read? Go shopping for a shut-in?

I bet God is thrilled that you took the time to toss out some DVD's rather than do any of the above things.

Doesn't offend me in the slightest. I am interested though, you say you had a precious collection of Vin Diesel movies that you threw away because you heard him say he hated god in Pitch Black, but I don't get it. Why throw away films that you say are precious to you because the script in one film requires the actor to blaspheme?

God gave us the excuse to blaspheme, he called it 'Free Will', it's in the bible and everything.

And, with wars, death, famine, disease how does "God stand up for us every day"? Seems like he's laying down o the job to me.

Sorry, just don't understand.

AS far as movies go there are two main reasons to use the word "God".
One: For dramatic reasons. It makes more of an impact if a character says "Goddammit!" instead of "Darnnit!".
Two: For "realism". Listen to the way people talk. God is one of the words in people's vocabulary, it is how many of us speak. Phrases such as "For God's sake" and the explitive "God!" are ways people talk, so in a movie it makes sense a character would speak similarly.

As for "Pitch Black" it was a dramatic scence explaining why the CHARACTER Riddick was a heartless murdering bastard. It was not Vin Diesel's personal opinion.

I can only assume the view from that guilded moral tower you live in is spectacular. The rest of us have to make due with the fact that we are imperfect. Deal with it.

I find this hard to understand.

"God" is a word, it is not the name of any god in particular. The name of the Jewish god was composed of the letters equivalent to Y, H, V, H but no one knows how it was pronounced. Yahveh and Jehovah are possibilities but there are many other possible pronunciations. In fact "Yahoo" could be a pronunciation of the name of the Hebrew god! (V is sometimes pronounced non-consonantally as OO, and H at the end of words can be silent).

"God" is a word used of many mythical beings - Thor, Zeus, Mars, etc. It is not the name of any god.

So why should anyone saying "god" in any context annoy or upset anyone? It makes no sense to me at all. It would make (marginally) more sense if you got upset about people using the name Yahoo!

I'm not angered by it, but I have to say it's not something I think is cool. Humans have done worse to spite God. Darwin had a problem with God "letting" his daughter die, hence his movement. I think that denying His existence is more of a problem than using his name to damn another. It is a commandment that we should keep as best we can. It is another bad habit that a lot of us have, I'm guilty of it as well. When I use it, I always feel bad about it. As long as you don't let the movies shape you as a person or affect your relationship with God, then it's not a sin to keep your movie collection.

How many times have I heard god fearing christians saying things like 'Gosh', 'Crumbs' etc. Isn't that the same. Just because you don't say the exact word, doesn't mean you are not meaning it! I think if that's all you've got to worry about then you have very little worries in your life and you just can't find anything real to complain about or to get on with. I suggest you get yourself involved with something more worthy like helping out at your local church or help out at Sunday school rather than be so petty.

I am also angered. I think that if all of us made the same sacrifice that you have chosen to do with the movies the movie producers may start changing the way they make movies. Blasphemy is accepted in america sadly though praying out loud is illegal in schools. Someday it may be illegal to say his name aloud altogether. If there were more movies God centered more people would know not to swear against him.

VIN DIESEL IS just a character in a movie. Not the actual person. No need to be too extreme about it. But i told myself i will stop saying GD and i have restrained. But to throw movies away for something a character said. Well you need to differentiate between movies and reality.

i can't call the kettle black. just tthe other day i did. and instantenous ask God to forgive me for using His name in such an ugly way. and the funny thing is, is i don't even curse. i had to have a reason so i told God the devil made me do it. one thing i was around people that used this langugage and i have avoided it. i use to use profanity quite often, but when i gave my life to the Lord, i immediately gave this up. it wan't hard because i didn't use hard core curse word and i never used God's or Jesus' name in vain. Please pray for me because i know the enemy is attacking, i've resisted thus far, until this happened. satan works in subtle ways and will have you saying or doing things you know are not God's way. i will keep my guard up and those that believe please pray that i won't do consciencely anything not for GOD. I'VE ALWAYS STOOD UP FOR GOD AND I WON'T LET THIS STOP ME!!!!

I am with you. There are all kinds of ways to express anger or surprise or whatever in most movies without having to abuse people's religion. Just think what kind of an uproar there would be if they were abusing Jewish or Muslims or any other religion's terms. But since it is Christian it doesn't matter.

As someone who does a lot of stage acting, directing and producing, I have had to walk away from parts because I refused to use the language required. I have also had to rewrite lines to make them acceptable. To date, I have never had a director object to any of the line changes. I have always managed to find other, and often better or funnier, ways to convey the same meaning without having to use objectionable words.
