I try to blow my nose as much as I can but because I have an unusual amount of hairs in my nose, the mucus hardens and picking is the only way to clear the nostril. I do use moistened cotton buds from time to time when I am at home and this is successful but it is difficult to do this elsewhere. I had an operation to open up the nasal passage a few years ago and the surgeon warned me not to pick my nose as there is a very real risk of infection.

There are shelf-like projections on the medial side of your nostrils called Nasal Conchae that increase surface area and swirl around incoming air to warm it. If you pick too hard you can damage these. I'd suggest not picking your nose but if you really have to, be careful.

Yes. I used to do it very many years ago at school.
I finished up with a nose that was always bleeding and eventually I had to have it cauterised, which is particularly unpleasant and involves having a red hot needle put up your nose to seal the veins by burning them.
No joke, hope its made you think and, better still, stop picking.

Sounds like an obscessive, compulsive behaviour, and before long you will probably be compelled to do it in front of others, in which case what you are most likely to damage will be your ability to make friends and influence people LOL.

Don't stick your finger up your nose to far or to quickly...
Anyone ever picked a bogey that had blood on it but you haven't had a nosebleed... I think I'll ask that question!!

Homey, it aint gonna do any damage unless you start using a stick or shovel or something of that sort......lol Most ppl will find that their own finger fits their nose just fine..........

Very bad habbit. Someone could walk in on you and you could damage your dignity, nevermind your nose.
