A cheap groom who doesn't care enough about you to get married in a beautiful church. How sad.

I believe you just need a marraige lis. around $20 here, and a judge, which I believe will cost from $15-$50.
You will both need a witness, but I believe if you don't have one with you, someone in the court can be.
The Marraige liscense has to be present with you on the day of the ceremony, you hae to buy it in advance, but no more then 30 days previous, otherwise it will expire. I would call your local courthouse, or the town where you are planning it, and see what they say.
Also if you still want it to feel like a wedding, I believe they will let you decorate a little.
Good luck, and best of wishes!

Your marriage license, which is applied for and purchased at a government center (county clerk's office). They will give you a list of Justice of the Peace. You call the one of your choosing and they will meet you anywhere to perform the marriage ceremony. At the court house if you want, or at your home, or wherever. You will need money for him (10 years ago, that was about $50). That's about it.
And for those who said "losers" and "get a groom who will marry you in a church", what if they CAN'T AFFORD to get married in a church. That costs A LOT more money.
We were married in a civil ceremony, and had a reception later. We wanted to get married, but we didn't have a lot of money. We loved each other enough to know we wanted to be married. 10 years later, we're still very happily married. We wanted to have the whole church thing, but it was going to cost over $500 just for the church! We didn't have that kind of money then. Now we are financially better off, and we are planning a nice ceremony to renew our vows.
So for those who call people who marry by the courts losers, get over yourselves. You don't know the whole story.

who said you have to get married in a court? You can get married in a church, synagogue, temple, etc. or on the beach, or if you can afford it you can get married on the moon or in an Italian castle. You only have to go to the courthouse to get the marriage license. That makes your wedding legal and so half of his stuff now belongs to you should you divorce and not have a pre-nump.

Marriage is a legal union between two people so it must be legalized in a court of law. This way the couple can file married -joint for their taxes and own property together as joint tenants.

go to the local municipality and get the marriage license. take a witness. Once you and your fiance fill out the paperwork and pay like 28 dollars then you wait three days and pick up the finalized paperwork. The marriage certificate is good for 30 days. then go and get married!
