Marc Jacobs ALWAYS has the current "it" bag. Also, Yves Saint Laurent this year has a great satchel in a nice chocolate brown and black.
I would say to stay away from the "hobo" bag look, and go with somthing more chic for fall.
patent leather and quilted purses are always in style.

I love small indie designers so I feel that I'm pretty much alone on this planet carrying a cool handbag. Checkout this bombshell bag from bamboocloset.com.
I love their handbags. Not your typical run of the mill mass produced stuff. I think they have all-handmade stuff made by designers themselves.
