All civilizations have a rise and fall. You can't predict the fall of America on the Roman Empire. They have nothing to do with one another..So what if Cheny is pushing for an attack on Iran? We do not have the manpower or the money to do that anyway regardless of what he thinks.

Hannibal moved a band of elephants around the Mediterranean Sea and into Italy out of anger and revenge for how Rome treated other people's and nations. He didn't defeat Rome, but he scared the crap out of the Romans who then went on a 150 year binge of attacking and pillaging other countries to quell anti-Roman resistance. By the end of it, Rome was so over extended and broke from spending on military campaigns (and could not steal enough wealth to sustain itself) that Rome eventually collapsed, sending Europe into the Dark Ages.
Was Rome's anything like the US situation now? Hell, no. Rome wanted gold, not oil, and Hannibal committed suicide when his attack failed; Osama didn't off himself, and he used airplanes (which don't look anything like elephants...).
On the other hand, the brutality and pillaging of neighboring nations by Rome and the US is quite similar.

In regards to yor first question. Whenever a person, company , or country is at the top, it is always the goal of all others to take them down, it is human nature. this is all that the U.S.A. and the Roman Empire have in common.

I agree with my Greek teacher - America is alright in its decline and it cannot do anything to bounce back. Nations rise and fall, it is an irreversible process.
