They do that in many countries. But I don't think that that would be the proper punishment for theft. Now, if someone sexually molests a child, yes, their hands should be cut off. Along with other body parts.

It sounds good, but a totally useless thing. That usually does nothing but create a beggar. It would be better to make to thief work to repay the one he stole from. That is in the event it isn't a habit for the thief. People can hit a stretch of bad luck and feel the need to steal. Extreme circumstances lead to extreme behaviors sometimes. But I am fully in favor of putting someone away for a long time (jail) if they show that they are a habitual thief.

I feel it sure would bring the numbers down on thief's! In America we feel this is a OK practice, if we did not we would have tougher laws.Not necessarily what you sigest....
