The problem here is what is meant by the word 'communism'. What used to obtain in the Soviet Union had little resemblance to anything that was reflected on or seen as desirable by Marx or Engels.
This business about 'good in theory but bad in practice' is hog-wash inasmuch as the practice in Eastern Europe had little to do with the theory, if by the latter is meant the writings of Marx and Engels. Marx himself- by far the more interesting writer of the two- did not produce blue-prints of post-revolutionary society, but was indeed very clear about the evils of capitalism. These are present still, and are clearly in evidence. We live in a grossly exploitative and unequal world economy.
Here it would be better to question capitalism, rather than communism!

Some things work in theory, but not in the real world and communism is one of those things. In communism the state owns everything so you as the individual have no incentive to improve or make the system work better because it not going to help you as a person. The next time you go into a government facilities like the DMV,or SS office and watch the indifference of the workers there is no motivation for excellence , now just imagine all private businesses in the US being run that way and you start to realize why communist is a failure everyplace it has been tried.

your friends must have disowned you. I actually have communist acquaintances. And sure communism is extremely undesirable. There has never been a reliable communist leaded because the leaders are given too a lot ability, and they are going to continually abuse it. What do you advise by recent leaders? the first communist regime became the Russian one. each and every next chief has been oppressive. Communist perspectives are a techniques to idealized, and it would want to easily artwork in a ideal international with ideal human beings. So sure, communism is undesirable because it doesn't artwork. such as finish free marketplace capitalism doesn't artwork. try to be someplace contained in the midsection.

The ideology behind Marxism is very worthy and if you could rule out corruption and greed, then Communism would be a fairer system , Unfortunately Marxism is no better than capitalism in promoting anything other than greed and corruption. .
Russia failed under the Marxist banner and yet is now starting to flourish under capitalism.. China is still a Marxist state using capitalism to fund its growth and development but even so Its very obvious that the poor stay poor and the rich get richer, Even states like Cuba suffer the same corrupting influences.. That's the nature of economic growth.

Communism restricts the individual motivation therefore retards progress.
While nobly suggesting that everyone is equal, holding back those who will naturally outperform others is counter productive.
Method of communism has been experimented in all its varieties and always fails its people , sometimes to extremes under mao tse tung where milions died prctising communism in its purest form
Most states around the globe that are still practising communism do so under tyrannical regimes which by its nature is self defeating and no longer real communism since the people are not equal.(4 legs good 2 legs bad)
Communism is of course the most extreme of left wing principal ,a left wing which in itself opposes the natural order , where cream always rises(natural selection)And thus all forms of left wing government are regressive and unnatural.

In principle it should through the equal redistributions of wealth, however this would not practically work as
People are too greedy
Leaders become power crazy.
The reason communism has failed across the world as a thriving alternative to democracy is because the leaders of these communist states spent so much of the country's wealth on defence by arming themselves with nukes and wmd's.
China is getting somethings right but majority of thier people a peasants and the human rights violations there are a big distortion of what 'real' communism is all about.

Please don't try and reintroduce that tired and discredited argument again. In trying to promote the concept of equality, it destroys the natural incentive for people to want to better themselves. It is a top down theoretical model of how things should run. The trouble is, that it does not understand or cater for human nature. Because people naturally want to improve themselves, it calls for an oppressive, anti capitalist, anti democratic government to keep people under control. Why do you think that the Soviet Union failed? Why do you think that the public sector is so inefficient?

communist economics are superior to capitalist economics all the states the said they were communist were fakes they used communist planned economy that's why Russia between the years 1918 and 1960 turned from a economical back Walter to the 2ND greatest industrial economy in the world this shows the superiority of communist style economics Russia failed in the rest of the communist ideological requirements this is because to have a true Communist revolution you have to have an industrial capitalist system over wise the comm unist party turns in to a state capitalist this is what happened in Russia and over supposed communist states.
and if people fink in doesn't work because of human nature are ignorant human nature is lucrative and is changed by economical system that their country utilises.
capitalism crushes individual freedom people are forced to work their lives away for pay that is just enough to live on which makes their life stagnate.
capitalism is also a destroyer of democracy wile communism is true democracy.

Not a bad question.
It is bad, because it removes the incentive for excellence. People are motivated by the ability to improve their own lives and the lives of their families.
If by working hard and working smart, you can not improve the life of your own family and yourself, you typically will not strive for excellence but merely bide your time.
It is the striving for excellence that drives innovation, and it's the reason so many things have been invented or improved in the American workplace.
Communism promotes stagnation.

communism and its relatives are all based on the idea that people will gladly work for the common good as long as everybody works to their limits and that people will accept different rewards for the same work. from each according to his ability and to each according to his needs is the basic statement of how its suppost to work. it has 2 major faults. the first is that there are people that will not work but who expect to still get "theirs" and the second is that those in charge tend to skim off the cream for themselves. in the end there are fewer and fewer workers willing to support the drones and the whole system falls apart. other faults of the system are a tendancy toward central control and an general unwillingness to install workable controls to measure outcomes. in short communism works for bees ans ants but never for humans
