Read Dan Brown's book "Angels and Demons" it talks about the Illuminati" He also wrote "The Da VInci Code"
Loosely translated, i think it means "people of the light" or "those who know"
I think it is also where the saying "in the dark" came from, referring to someone who doesn't know
One of their symbols is the pyramid with the "all seeing eye" at the top, found on the back of the one dollar bill.
