I reformatted my c:\ drive with WindowsXP a couple days ago and now I'm unable to get my wireless adapter to recognize any signal. When I try to use MS Help, it's inapplicable because within my Network Settings (control panel) it gives me instructions to right-click on Wireless Network...and that's not there. I try to set one up, but it's not doing anything at all. I've reinstalled the wireless adapter's software over and over and it's still not getting me online.
In the past I would install the software, plug the adapter into the USB port and the wireless icon would appear in the taskbar as well as the tab in the Network Connections window...both automatically. This time, nothing is happening automatically at all...in fact, nothing is happening period.
Does anyone have any helpful hints that I could try? I'm at my wits end really...so if you can, please assist.

I formatted using the Restoration disc that came with my other computer. Since then I've not seen any of the wireless info that I'm used to. When I used the installation software FOR my old adapter, it didn't seem to make any changes (as far as drivers/wireless connections showing up) because I'm pretty sure the adapter is dead. Would this make a difference?
If I purchase a new wireless adapter, and install the software that comes with it, would this solve all my problems or is there a deeper issue working?

Make sure you have the driver for you wireless card installed. Window will not allow you to do wireless networking if it doesn't recognize that there is a device capable of wireless communication.

Also check you device manager for any unknown devices. And make sure that your computer has the correct USB drivers installed.

Make sure you reinstall the drivers for the wireless card. If you used the original restore disks to reinstall windows the drivers should be included. If you used other means then you will need to plug into Internet connection (Ethernet cable) and download the appropriate drivers.

If you go to the manufacturer's website most of the time you can click on the support / download link and put in the model of computer you have. All of the drivers are then displayed and you simply download, install, and restart.

Without the correct drivers it appears as if your computer is totally broken and useless. The drivers are the translators between Windows and the device being controlled.
