Marathon innings: Lara.

Tell me one marathon innings others in your list have played.

Tendulkar played one against Bangladesh. (248)
He scored 241 against Australia - his worst ever double century on a flat pitch where he refused to cover-drive.

Ponting: I haven't seen one longish innings yet.

Kallis who?

PS: Rahul Dravid is one name missing from the list. He is one in recent times who has batted over 2 days a few times.

All of the above, except Kallis is naturally atacking batsmen. Kallis will bat for marathon innings, but will seldomly dominate the opposition, that is if he gets past 20 runs.

I think Brian, Sachin and Ricky has proved they can bat marathon innings and dominate the opposition. Currently I will say the most likely is Brian Lara, who is currently in very good nick and did dominate the Pakistani's over the past day or two.

Absolutely Brian Charles Lara. Look at his scores 501* (in first calss) 400*, two triple centuries, nine double centuries, nineteen times he passed 150 runs overall 34 centuries and a leading runscorer in Test cricket (11688 runs). I think this brief information is enough. It is needless to consider Ponting and Kallis. And most recently Lara was declared the greatest batsmen in the present cricket world by Sanjay Manjrekar, Ravishastri and Tony greig by cricinfo.com.

B.Lara has the ability to play marathon innings and he has proved not once. Other batsmen are yet to show that ability more than once and dominace over the opposition.
