Yes. I think so. Racisim often has to do with the use of power and influence against another race. Its all in the context of how you use the word. George Carlin has used the N word in his standup routines a few times and has never suffered backlash because of it.

I think so, but not in the Michael Richards case. He didn't just yell out, "F--- you, you n-----!" Not that that's excusable, but I guess I could see someone losing their temper and hurling insults at people, including racial slurs. But Michael Richards actually made racist comments. He made references to lynch mobs and implied that it would be a good thing if black people could still be lynched for speaking their minds! What's up with that?! He does seem to have some racist views, otherwise I don't think he would have said that. If some black person insulted me, I doubt I would start thinking in terms of lynching him!

I don't think so. I think in the heat of the moment, if all you can think of to insult someone is their race, that's what holds the most weight in hurting them, that is also what you look at as their flaw. If you weren't a racist, and looked at the individual as such- an individual, pulling the race card wouldn't even be a shadow of a thought, you would focus more on the issue.

I have never heard a person that was not racist say that even when they were mad.

I think he just got angry and went to far. I dont know if he's racist but I have a few comments on that. 1-maybe he just don't want to admit that he's racist, 2-he was raised that way but don't wan't to be, 3-or it just could the worst day of his life and he really didn't mean it.
p.s.
I know I really didn't answer the question but I had to comment :)
