The deepest ocean depth to be sounded is in the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench at a depth of 10,911 m (35,798 ft) below sea level.
That's about 6 and three quarter miles deep

The answers that quote the depth of the Mariana Trench are correct.
As a general rule, the ocean depth averages five kilometres, and two kilometres over the mid-ocean ridges. These are the areas where the oceanic tectonic plates are produced, The trenches are areas where one tectonic plate is being subducted (pushed under) another plate.

I would guess 8 miles?
I think the Titanic was 4 miles down, although the more I think about it the dafter it seems.
And is it getting shallower as land erodes? Ooh you have got me thinking now.
