So, i was wondering, if and when you run your system recovery disk, on ur pc, does it have less space on the drive, than it did prior to running the recovery? or is the harddrive about the same size?

When using the system recovery disk to completely reload your OS and applications, you will turn your computer into the state it was when it was new. All the added system files are gone. So, you will have more space available. The size of the disk itself should remain constant, unless it repartitioned your drive.
