Whole milk only. After the 2nd Birthday then you can go to a lower fat milk. Work it down to skim as each year passes. Whole milk is essential for brain development and helps with nutrients that are required in their body for it to functio properly.

Drs recommend whole milk as developing babies need the high fat content. If you ran out of whole milk and all you had left in the house was skim, on a short term basis that should be fine... but for everyday use whole milk is what you should be using.

What is even BETTER than whole milk is a milk specifically designed for toddlers (usually I see the range 1-3yrs of age). It, like formula, is based on cow's milk that has been modified to include the extra nutrients, proteins, etc that would be found naturally in breastmilk and which older babies/young children need for proper development. I'm still nursing but I give my daughter this type of milk when I'm not around and she loves it. It's a bit more expensive than whole milk (of course), but if you could fit that into your budget I would go with that!! I think it's less than formula, so you should see a decrease in mthly spending anyways.

Whole milk is what is ideal for a 12 month baby. If it is an occasional thing that you give him/her skim milk then they should be fine but babies need the extra fat in the whole milk.

If you're visiting somewhere and all they have is skim milk, one cup of it a few times won't hurt your baby, but as a rule, you really should give the baby whole milk during the first year. The fat in the milk is crucial for your baby's brain development and proper growth.

Skim milk is for us! Trying to keep the fat out of our diets while getting the calcium that we need. Babies need all that they can get. Give your baby whole milk. I asked my doctor about giving my son milk and that was the suggestion he gave. I on the other hand will stick to my skim milk, thank you!

For the first year (until two yrs old) the baby needs whole milk. Once the baby is two yrs you can switch to fat free milk if that is usually what the rest of the family drinks. My child's pediatrician gave me this advise.

WHOLE MILK ONLY --NO skim milk. Ask your pediatrician, they will tell you. Your baby needs all those vitamins and minerals, and yes, even the fat inside that whole milk. They are growing little bodies that burn a lot of energy...they need WHOLE MILK.

One bottle sometimes might nicely be below finished milk, yet until the 2d birthday, infants choose for the fat in finished milk (except the healthcare expert says in any different case for a undeniable toddler). (i've got run out of finished milk a time or 2 and had to place skim interior the bottle to get with the aid of until morning or something like that or been at a eating place or somebody's abode and easily had 2% accessible)

My pediatrician always said to use 2% milk. Skim doesn't have enough fat for a growing baby, but whole milk has too much fat and you want to keep their arteries healthy from the beginning. My children are quite healthy today - all grown up!!
