If you have a lot of friends of all different races, and you enjoy learning about other cultures, but you still prefer not to date people of a certain race or ethnicity, are you considered a racist? Would not wanting to date "those" people be a sign that you find their race or ethnicity unattractive or inferior somehow?

Just for the record, I was using the word "those" in a sarcastic kind of way... it's like saying "those" out loud while using two fingers from each hand to represent quotation marks.

I was never attracted to another race, but like to have them as friends. I don't think that makes you racist.

I think if you keep your mind open to other cultures you are ok. I'm kind of the same way. I would prefer not to date people from certain races but.....that's usually because the people of those races are from such a different "world" than I am. I would definitely consider it if the guy was hot and had a personality I could relate to.
I think also by the term prefer you mean for the most part you would not, but you might be open to it in special circumstances. That's fine, it's a preference. It you are not attracted to them, it's not racist, it's just your taste.

I have to say no...most people have a particular "type" of person that they're attracted to. If your "type" falls into or out of another race that's not racist...Let's use Orlando Bloom as an example... In the Lord of the Rings Trilogy he was super pale with straight blond hair and ice blue eyes. In Pirates of the Caribbean he was nicely tanned with dark curly hair...If you're attracted to the tall dark and handsome type you'd be more interested in the Pirates Orlando, that doesn't make you anti-Scandinavian or anything...nor does it make him any less yummy...

Well I for one don't think you're a racist if you don't want to date people of other races. Maybe your not attracted to them. It's perfectly understandable. If you are attracted to them however...well it's a little bit more complicated. I still wouldn't consider it racism. You just don't like something about the person. It could be his/hers attitude or skin color that bugs you. Same difference.

No, I don't think that it's racist. I don't consider myself a racist, even though I would never date someone who is black, Hispanic, Asian or Native American. (I'm part Cherokee, by the way.) It's not because I think they're inferior. It's only because I don't find them sexually attractive. I've only been attracted to white men, and I have to say that it certainly doesn't mean that I'm attracted to ALL white men.

I don't think so. Racism has to do with hating a race of people for whatever reason. If you choose not to date outside your race it's simply your preference.
But what a wonderful world it would be if we didn't have preferences and divisions!

I think not because the white man says to his daughter "don't date a black man keep our race pure but the black man says to his daughter " don't date a white man keep your black heritage pure" I think that every race wants to perserve its culture heritage and history and that is okay because while it would be a more peaceful place if we were all the same it would also be a boring place too.

I don't consider myself racist...I've just never been attracted to anyone of another race. I'm sure that if I were I would go out with them.

Yes.
I would say if you exclude an entire race from your dating pool based just on that criteria you are by definition a racist.
