heat pump runs part time in auxillary and is blowing cold air. thermostat set point is not being reached

Hmmmm....could be many things. Running in aux. means that for some reason the OD unit may not be running or is not producing enough heat to reach setpoint, perhaps it is stuck in defrost or you have a refrigerant leak and have lost some charge.

I don't have a York but if I try to heat the house more than 2 degrees at a time it will go into auxiliary mode until temp is reached

You need a service call,the 'aux' alone should heat your place.Something is broken.FYI if heat oump is in defrost aux will run and heat pump will run in cool,if your filter is plugged or your refrigerant is low,it will need to run in defrost more often and longer.Try running on emergency heat and check and or change filter until youcan get a service call.
