Choose the heaviest that you think you can handle and control.....it needs to be as heavy as possible......the correct roll(spin or English) on the ball is very important but even then it needs to be heavy enough to hit the "King Pin" which is the 5 and not the 1....the 1 or head pin is almost 3 feet in front of the 5 so with out the right roll and weight it will deflect and deny you a strike or a good count and often times leave you a split....recommend a 16 pound ball but no lighter then 14.5......good luck on the tour and I will be expecting my 1% commission!!

You have to choose the ball that best fits your delivery. You will want the heaviest ball that you can comfortably control for 3 games. The heavier the ball the better the pin action. Remember you have to bowl 3 games in league play. Dont go to heavy because that 3rd game could become tiresome. Ask the Pro at the store before you make your purchase. Good Luck

Just use the bowling ball weight that is most comfortable and not too heavy for you. It does not matter how much it costs, what type of drilling needs to occur and does not matter how fancy it looks, unless you have a favorite pattern or color. My son bowls with a 10 lb. bowling ball and strikes as much as I do with a 14-15 lb. bowling ball. It's not the weight, but rather how the bowler performs by delivering the ball. Don't kill yourself or overload your brain with too much technical info. Bowling should be fun!

The proper weight is determined by you. A heavier ball does not equate with more power. the name of the game is accuracy. You can get a strike with a six pound ball as easily as with a 16 pound one. If you use a lot of spin on your ball you'll want a urethane cover, if you throw a straight ball a plastic ball will do just fine. Urethane covers help spread the oil away from the ball and allow the ball to grip and track better. My best advice is go to the pro shop at the bowling alley and talk to the pro. I did and my average went up 30 pins!
Good luck!

well you should be able to hold a ball with your arm completly downward for at least 30secs...with out moving...i don't know your body typ or your muscle stucter but i would say a #14 ball..now as for a ball do want to be serious bowler? just for fun bowler? or just a a good league bowler?? for serious get a ball that has a lot of hooking power...for fun just get one that matches your personality!!.for good league bowler i would say same a serious but get one thta will work on all types of lane conditions....you can look at most of the balls at bowlersparadice.com.......then a proshop at a bowling alley can also help you decide....i have been bowling for many years and also coaching...

The people at the bowling ball place should help you out. They'll measure your fingers and handspan thing. They should also help you see what weight of ball feels best.
Just go shop for one and try it out.

Get one that fits your fingers just right and one that's not too heavy for you to manage. The longer you play with one that's too heavy for you, the sooner you'll notice fatigue set in and you won't be able to chunk it down the lane so well anymore.
