They don't its an American holiday, geeeeeezz. As far as its origins the PiIgrims were starving and about to start eating each other when the Native Americans in an act of ill-fated generosity saved them. The Natives were paid back by having their land stolen, disease, and years of ceaseless war.

Thanksgiving is an only-American holiday.Here in Romania we don't celebrate Thanksgiving because it's some kind of State Birthday of some sort

Thanksgiving Day ,as you are probably referring to it, is a strictly American holiday to celebrate the Pilgrim's arrival in the new world. They don't celebrate it in the rest of the world. Their are other "Thanksgiving Days" in Canada and the UK, but are different and have different origins and meanings.

It is believed when the winter came early & the crops were bad leaving the Pilgrims & Indians starving the Indians brought food to them & the Pilgrims asked them to share the dinner. They both contributed what they had & made a meal. Grateful for the food & friends - thus Thanksgiving. That is why is is an American holiday, however I am sure all countries are thankful for their blessing.

Every culture celebrates autumn harvest with a grand party and every body brings food to eat. It is a natural seasonal thing, last harvest of the year, cleaning up, food preparation storage for winter. As people worked doing this, they also give thanks to mother earth.
