Zip disks are handy for doing routine backup of genetal documents such as Word and Excel files, unlike CD-R's where after one use they are done and just have to be thrown away.

I had a zip drive with my old G4, but some people give the latest model of the Zip 100 bad reviews. Should I get it or not? I already have plenty of Zip Disks.

I use my zip all the time!

I suppose it depends what you want/need it for.

I use power point a lot, so it's great to be able to work on something at home and then bring it to work.

one hint- upgrade to the Zip 250

Ok the primary purpose for backups is to recover a system from failure. While backups are commonly used to restore files, restoring files are minor.

If you are backing up your data for recovery of a failed system then you want to select a media that is least susceptible to corruption and has a long shelf life.

If you are backing up to restore data then select a media that allows you the most read and writes.

A few thing to keep in mind when setting up your backups.

1.) How easy is it to restore the data from the media.
2.) What data do you need to back up.
3.) What is the most cost effective way to do backups.
4.) How long do you plan to kee the data
5.) What is the plan to restore the data in the event of failure or loss.

If u use cd-rw this problem of throwing away is done away with. Further u can have multi-session for cd-r also. It is much faster to use cd-r or cd-rw compared to zip drive. Further the media costs are negligble with cd.
