I don't like scary movies either, and I'm an old lady (by kids' standards, anyway). I think there is more than enough horror in the world without having to go looking for it. Go to your room and shut the door. If you can still hear the movies, put some music on. You can ask your parents for earplugs (or if you are old enough you can buy the little foam ones you put in your ears at most drugstores for just a couple bucks- and they really work and are comfortable enough to sleep in). If this means that you don't get to spend much time with your parents, point it out to them-- tell them you want to spend more time with them and you feel alone and isolated in your room, but you can't stand the movies they watch. Stay strong and follow your own desires. The world needs people like you who value peace and abhor violence. Good Luck!! and let us know what happens.

I've heard of this sort of thing before! I think Your parents have been replaced by changelings! It would be best if You went to a college far far away from Your home town and spent as much time as possible at relatives and friends houses until You can escape for good. ask them for lots of money and see what they say, if they don't buck up the doe buttercup then that would confirm it. I had the same problem and this is the only way to get away. Those movies they watch will only get worse!!! After a while they'll only watch movies, they won't work or do laundry; save Yourself now before it's too late!!!!! On a lighter note I hope You have a nice thanksgiving if Your American, it's my first American thanksgiving and I'm really excited about it! Good luck, and take care of Yourself!

I doubt it that they actually FORCE you to watch any movies they choose. Maybe you can let them know how you feel and plan on doing something else in the meantime. I need you to understand that just because you do not care for movies of that kind, they should not have to watch them. As grown people they have the right to choose the movie that they want to watch.

Be honest with them. And stay out of the room if they persist.
Remember, a scary film is just pretend. Try to keep pulling it apart, remembering there is make up,special effects, mood music, etc.
But they should stop doing it when you're around.

If they don't force you to, leave the room. Put on some music, or watch another TV if you have one, to drown out the sound.

Tell them these movies scare you and give you nightmares, and ask them to please watch these either in their own bedroom, or after you've gone to bed, or are gone to a friend's. If they care about you, they will understand.
ps. they scare me too, and I AM the mom!
