I am newly married and want to start some new traditions (along with our families old). It can be for any holiday. Give me all the details. I would especially love Christmas ones.
Thanks!

Since I was a small child, I've always loved going out to see Christmas lights. Check your local newspaper for spectacular houses in your area, or just pick a big neighborhood. About a week before Christmas, make some hot chocolate, load up in the car, and drive around looking at the decorations. We like to assign each member of the family one item... like a nativity, santas, snowmen... and count how many we see. This is a tradition I've carried on with my own children, and we all look forward to it every year.

Happy Holidays!

When my boys were little, we started a new tradition to help them tame their excitement for Christmas. We did this with an old family tradition, which was to read the Christmas story about Santa and his reindeer going from house to house with gifts for the good little boys and girls. After the story, we allowed them to choose one gift to open that they could delight in for an hour or so. We did this at midnight after the story was read. This appealed to their joy and anticipation for the gifts that were under the tree and helped to coral them back to bed. The next morning they were still excited to open the rest of their gifts. It allowed them to go to sleep peacefully rather than stay up all night as we did when we were little.

Ok, this isn't a "holiday" or "Christmas" tradition. It is a birthday tradition. When my daughter was born, I gave my wife a dozen red roses. In that dozen, there was one white rose. That one was for my daughter. now each year my daughter gets one more rose. She is now 12 and she just got 13 roses. This is going to cost me a fortune as she gets older but it is worth it to see her delight. She loves them even though she knows she is going to get them.
