no they shouldnt, of course each case should be looked at individually, but this man has no remorse for what he has done, what a horrible way to die and be remembered

I really believe this was an absolutely terrible accident. I don't think for a minute he had any criminal intent. I also don't think an 80 year old man needs to be in prison, just imagine what his health care would cost us as taxpayers.
I feel so sorry for the families whose lives were turned upside down by this tragedy- but I don't think he belongs in prison.
Driving tests (road tests) should be part of the driver's license renewal process at all ages.

No. I don't know where in the world you live, but here in the UK this guy would be prosecuted and sent to prison for the rest of his life. If he knew what he was doing then this is murder, whatever his age. If he wasn't sure what he was doing, then it's manslaughter at the very least.
Our UK/EU driving license also expires when you reach 75 and, I think, you have to take another test to drive after that age.

Well thats more than one question.
But I think after 60 you should be tested every 2 years instead of the 4-5 in most states.
In his case he is 89 and dying anyways?
what would be the point of paying his keep
and medical bills.
The judge stated the guy deserved jail time,
but that doesn't mean he deserved a death sentance
which jail would be.

If the question is "should the elderly be able to kill people and get away with it" there is no law that states once you reach a certain age you are automatically exempt from the law,and if the question is "what age should people no longer be be allowed to drive",that would be a matter of their driving skills and not their age

It's not a matter of being fair but more so it's matter of tax payers covering the cost of keeping that imbecile in jail with the luxury of food and medical care. I would guess that the cost would be somewhere well over $100,000 a year for his incarceration care. I'm just surprised that someone didn't just take a baseball bat to his head and get it over with at the scene of the accident. I remember two drunks that drove their van over the lawn and killed a little kid and the crowd dragged them out and beat them to death with bricks. Now that's justice!

Considering his medical conditions...he is pretty much home bound. He most likely would have ended up in a medical ward or hospital so him seeing the actual jail would have been close to impossible.
I think he did make a mistake and it was an accident..but peoples emotions..including the jurys emotions played a major part in his conviction.

It isn't fair, and I think that the judge's compassion was misplaced.
If this man showed no remorse, he should have gotten negligent homicide, and at least 5 years in some type of correctional facility. Plus, anything he owns should be sold to pay restitution to his victims.

i hope he got his license taken away. i agree with u, he should of been sent to prison. i heard on the news the judge thought that he should go to prison but the burden of his medical costs will fall us taxpayers. so what are they going to start doing now let all criminals leave prison once they get older and have medical expenses. even the violent serial killers get to leave prison.
he was a negligent driver, he should of had his license taken away a long time ago.

If it is premeditated murder then he shouldn't get away with it.
Why do the gangsters still run the streets of Los Angeles killing people, even little children, every day and still get away with it?
If it was a terrible accident then what crime would he be guilty of?
