the lock is 100ft. deep
n the lock is already flooded with 5 ft of water.
therefore, the lock becomes (100 - 5 ) = 95 ft. deep
then 2ft. long ladder n 7 ft. long rings (2 + 7) = 9ft. from the boat.
the lock is flooded with water @ 100/min = speed.
taking the speed to a standard form, 100/60*60 = 0.027 sec.
the final distance between the water n the ladder is( 95 - 9) = 86ft
to calculate the time it takes the water to reach the bottom of the ring, we go by the formular
speed = distance/time.
speed = 0.027sec. ,diastance =86ft. , time =?
time =distance/speed.
time = 86/0.027
= 3185.2 sec

If the there is a roof above the boat, and the walls don't leak, then when the boat hits the roof, then the water will reach the ladder and the two rings, but since there's no specs. about how high the lock is....I guess this won't happen either....

The water will never reach the rings, because the boat will float upwards as the water level rises. The rings will always remain 7 feet above the surface of the water!

You know, someone else asked the same kind of question to which my answer got selected as best. The words 'ladder' and 'boat' are a dead giveaway.
By the way, boats float on water at all times, especially the wooden ones.
I really wonder when someone'll browse around to see if it's worth wasting 5 points over a similar type of question.
