Peter Jackson has issued a letter to the fans on onering.net over the last couple of days saying that New Line have decided his services are not required on the Hobbit. Aparently this is due to an ongoing legal battle over auditing of the takings on Fellowship. Should the fans boycott the new film if it is made by someone other than Jackson or should we give the new director - whoever it is a chance?

There is no question - boycott!!! part of the magic of the Lord Of The Rings was jackson's fanatical attention to detail, he was often seen on set carrying round a copy of the book to ensure that the trilogy stayed as faithfull as possible to Tolkeins book. This is a very big mistake on New Line's part, they obviously underestimate the influence of Peter Jackson on the fans, to the dedicated rings fan Jackson is like a god.

I'd ask all rings fans to go here and tell New LIne what you think of this decision.

Fans of the LOTR movies and Jackson should not just boycott The Hobbit if Jackson is not involved - they should boycott all things New Line IMMEDIATELY. The threat of a boycott for an unmade film is meaningless. We must boycott everything New Line does until the dispute with Jackson is resolved.

There's a boycott petition attached to:

In just over 32 hours, the Web site has had almost 600 visitors, and the petition has 116 signatures.

I will DEFINITELY boycott any version of the Hobbit w/o Jackson! He brought LOTR to life in a way I didn't believe possible. Now I hear Tim BURTON might direct it?! Heresy! He's SO totally wrong for a film like that, esp. "the Hobbit"! Bag End will look like the town in "Nightmare Before Christmas" and the Elven Kingdom in Mirkwood will be like Willy Wonka's factory! ARGGH! '

This is JUST like what Chris Carter did to "the X-files" when Duchovny sued him for selling out the syndication to FX for less money...he RUINED the series, the petty little thug!

I agree w/the person who said, boycott ALL Newline productions. I already boycott anything having to do w/Mel Gibson!

New Line, should come to their senses. All about money if you ask me, New Line want the Hobbit in production now, Peter Jackson want's to remake "the Dambusters" before he would consider doing middle earth again. Plus New Line are also talking about making a pre prequal, ie the beginning of Middle Earth and Sauron etc, which means they would use Silmarillion which is a bunch of stories put together that gives a history of Middle Earth, Tolkien never intended for these to be published. More money spinning ideas from New Line. Support Jackson please won't be half as good without him.......

A Hobbit film is in production but Peter Jackson denied that he has any involvement in it, he did before but now has pulled out. In my opinion, it will be the worst prequel top ever come out

I think whoever makes it, will not achieve the success of PJ, if they do it without Iain McKellen and Iain Holm, or Andy Serkis, it will be a altogether different film. whats this about another "prequel" they say there was going to be two including the Hobbit. have I missed a book?
or are they going to tackle the Silmarilion?

Even if we did, I don't suppose New Line or Peter Jackson would suffer much, so why deprive ourselves of it? It might be interesting to compare and contrast the 2 directors.
The issue might be a bit more difficult for the actors....I suppose they could force New Line's hand in Jackson's favour if they wanted to by refusing to be in it unless Jackson is re-instated.

You know i forgot that Jackson actually created Middle Earth and it s amazing wonders. Somebody really should tell him to sue that impostor Tolkien.

Although the LOLR films are amazing and i love them, it is a place that belongs to all his fans and not just him. Why not see another interpretation? My favourite is still the version i have in my head from when my mom read it to me before i went to sleep.

Boycott it!

Hobbit + Jackson = awesome
Hobbit - Jackson = crap

Think about it: if Jackson isn't involved, then Weta Workshops (which he owns) won't be involved either.

I just finished watching the LOTR trilogy again - the extended edition DVDs - they're still breathtaking.

It's a hard one to call, i think we should give a chance and download the movie off limewire or something and if it's any good send new line an email and tell them what you thought.
