Cat island is similar to all of the other islands of the Bahamas. The original name was ""Guanahani"". This was the name given to this island by Arawak Indians who went there from South America around 900 AD. But the Spaniards led by Christopher Columbus took all of the Indians away during the 15th Century, no Indians live there now..

During the time when Pirates roamed the Caribbean, a pirate by the name of Arthur Katt lived there, that is why the name was gradually changed to ""Cat Island" The present name does not mean that lots of Cats live there, NOT AT ALL>
If you have ever wanted to visit Africa and Africa is too far away , then I suggest that you visit Cat Island, there is a similarity between the two countries.. You will love Cat Island as much as I do.

I trust that this is helpful, but there is much more wonderful things that I could share about the friendly people who live there., and it's rich History.
