Looking for idea of what the villages in galilee may have looked like before the birth of Jesus. style, color and design. Any idea that would not be expensive or very time consuming would be appreciated.

look for material that will give the feel of adobe with flat roof yur design depends a great deal on how large yur stage is how deep how many set changes you have to do etc check out any picture of clusters of buildings in the Tigris river area from that era depending on your budget and yur time constraints you can get cardboard wired to chicken wire stretched over a 2x2 frame to look like adobe... mix some white flour with water until it is real sticky then roll or brush it on the cardboard before it dries toss dry dirt onto it and it will stick when it dries it looks like troweled adobe burlap sacks can also be used the same way instead of cardboard ... straw for floors which would have been changed when it got dirty ...small open windows or those that are covered can be done with translucent yellowy paper to look like animal membrane sorry no glass around at that time in nice frames, if you want more dirt effect try lightly wiping brown shoe polish over surfaces with a slightly damp rag for darkening effect if you need stone stack used shoe boxes and treat then with the flour paste then toss on a combination of sand with a bit of dirt in it for stone feel ... hope this helps doing sets with little money or time to work and scrounge things is hard but satisfying
