I am christian and have friends who are black, white, chinese, christian, jewish and muslim. I see all of the above as people and respect their differences and am genuinely interested in their points oif view. Who else thinks the heads of state, presidents and prime ministers are whipping up a storm?? I wish they'd stop! surely most people on the ground just want to get on with their lives.

You seem intelligent and open minded. But I am afraid it is not that simple. Some politicians do use religion to whip up a storm, like you put it. However, there are issues that need to be confronted. There are some frightful interpretations of some religions, Islam and others. If you let the perpetuaters of such beliefs gets away with their teachings, they will soon amass some considerable pupulace around them and thus pose a threat to the rest of us. So, yes, live and let live. But do not tolerate those who profess terrorism and destruction.

i agree with you - but its for the majority of religious groups to realise that its not really about religion - i think its more to do with faith. You may disagree, but i think that killing and war in the name of religion is wrong because most religions are supposedly based on faith. Most religions also have codes of practice which are similar in their meanings. The one in the bible that stands out in this context is 'thou shalt not kill'. Yet people have, and continue to use religion as a basis for conflict. i know i'm generalising but it seems that most wars are the result of a particular religion or cultural group either trying to conquer other religions/cultural groups or because those of a particular culture/following a religion feel that they are being threatened/restrained in their culture/beliefs. I think that both are more to do with pride and pragmacy (ie my way is the one true way) than to do with performing god's will. I know ive probably defeated the objective of your question and haven't answered it, but this seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to make sense of what i personally feel is wrong with the whole concept of religion. I think that if those following a religion were more focussed on faith, the world would be a much better place!
A simple answer to a complex problem that i think will only get worse before it gets better. Lets all work together, ay?!

My friend, I wish it was that easy..
It would be really nice and wonderful if we could all just get along and expect our differences...
However, if we just make ourselves believe that peace can come across then we're just being naive and blind folded..even the friend that we love and respect and get in return the similar charateristics..there just this deep complex feeling of resentment for who or what their representing..because in the end politics is like a desease..and i hate it!

First of all i do not see what it has to do with religion but i agree with you. Religion is a man made thing has nothing to do with God.
Black white and chinese are not a religion my friend. Why do you have to make an emphasis on what king of people your friends are.
But as i said before i agree with you.

We don't need religion to tell us to treat each other right, you just need honest to goodness common sense which we all have. I believe in my fellow man(or woman) not God.
