Why do people listen to rap music???

Why stop there?

Does Blues, R&B, Country, Classic Rock, Instrumental, Gospel, Opera, Classical, Rock & Roll, New Age, Acid Rock, Hard Rock, Grunge, Top 40, Pop, International, Celtic, Soundtracks, Muzak and such also "suck?"

The world is an extremely diverse place; filled with unlimited preferences. Musical entertainment is no exception.

People listen to music that REACHES & MOVES them.

So - if you don't like rap music, that's fine. That is your preference. But think about how YOU would feel if someone berated YOUR musical preferences.

Not a nice feeling, right?

This planet is large enough for EVERYONE to enjoy WHATEVER format/category of music they prefer. If a genre offends or is distasteful to you, simply MOVE ON and enjoy what pleases you instead.

because it corresponds to the increasing sexual permissiveness in society. Plato said something along the lines that societys cultures always get themselves in synch with the rhythms and melodies that people experience (whether its of their own choosing or not). Rap is a mating call, and basically the subliminal message is "Keep F_ing until you cant F__ no mo, with whoever, whenever..etc". Rock and Roll had that subliminal message but not so blatantly, there was just the hint of that sexual suggestiveness.

I assure you, if things occur that turns the society conservative,or if something really serious like this Asteroid they say has a 1 in 40,000 chance of hitting the earth, or a nuclear explosion, the seriousness of life will hit people head on, and rap will fall out of favor.

The reason blacks sometimes get defensive when people put down rap music is because it is part of a cultural movement, the fuel so to speak of a cultural and political movement, there is something bigger than the rap songs themselves going on. Somebody made the observation that when girls screamed for the Beatles they were screaming for them, but they were also screaming for something bigger than the Beatles, the promise of liberation, independence, sexual freedom. Its no coincidence that the womens movement gained strength soon afterwards, once those girls grew up a bit.

I agree with the asker. It sucks big time. Many folks seem to like it because they think they are suppose to, be cause it's "popular". Disco survived to a degree, but I can't see this nonsense going on long. How many times can you speak in rhyme about smacking down a b****, or popping some cop, scoring some crack. Really deep, meaningful, and forward thinking lyrics. Rright.

i havent seen a group fo so called "artists" try so hard to act ignorant unfortunatly the kids think its cool to not be able to speak or dress properly they think its cool to walk around like they have their diapers full of sh&t with their pants down to their buttcracks, its hilarious i think it sucks also but i can change the channel we all have our favorite kind of music god bless america FREEDOM OF CHOICE
