Two months ago, I would have recommended Cover Girl, Natural Blends. It's matte, and provides and beautiful, soft cover. However, since then, I found something even better in its coverage, and staying power..plus, it's much better for the skin than any liquid foundation (and I've used quite a few through the years, I assure you). It's Physician's Formula Mineral Wear.
It's all natural, and talc-free. A loose powder, it offers a light layer of coverage, yet evens the tone, and disguises imperfections easier than you would imagine from a powder. It's proof that you don't need a cement-like-mask of make up in order to look good. It is foundation and powder in one incredible, easy step. I cannot say enough about it. It offers the benefits of all natural ingredients (no chemicals to seep into your skin), the lightness of a powder and the coverage of nothing you've seen. Reapplication is hardly necessary, even when you wear it all day. No need for concealer, no need for liquid foundation. And, it's cheap! Much cheaper than Bare Minerals, it costs $9.83 at Wal-Mart, and from the looks of it, could last a year (I've been using it two months--everyday--and it's still so full you'd think I bought it a week ago).
Wow. I sound like a freakin' infommercial. Apologies.

Right Gremlin. First of all I was the same when I was young. Get yourself in to the cleanse, tone, and moisture routine. Even the process of doing this will soften your skin. A sauna on a regular basis will be a good start to eliminate all those toxins. Dont eat fatty foods or too sweet foods. Steam your face to open pores and then squeeze all those nasty blackheads, not spots tho', then use tea tree to close up the pores. The last thing you needs is thick cloggy foundation. Use something like Rimmel Recover its good and cheap. Boots No. 7 do a good
tinted moisturiser to match your skin. I would advise you to do down this line to give your poor skin a chance. Drink lots of water and this does work. Then if all this fails, slap on Estee Lauder foundation of your choice, but first go to a Department store and get advice and a free makeover. Keep an open mind and good luck.

I am a fan of Revlon Colourstay. Get the one for Oily/Combination skin, not the light version obviously... I have an uneven skin tone (especially in the morning) because my spots usually leave a red mark for a few weeks but this gives an excellent coverage. If you add a second layer where needed (I know it's against the rules but hey, it works) and finish with powder it will stay put for 10+ hours.
I also recommend Max Factor's Erace concealer, it has a great consistency and blends well. Max Factor also do a stick foundation called Panstik which gives full coverage and is recommended by make up artists.
Conc. M.A.C. - obviously a great choice if you have the cash...

Something cement-like will only make your skin worse. You need firstly to have a facial to clear out the blackheads and exfoliate your tired skin to reveal fresh skin beneath. Secondly, you need to drink water and lots of it! At least 2 litres a day. Thirdly, Mac Studio Fix is good because it evens out your complexion and isn't cloying or heavy. Go to a Mac shop and get them to do you a makeover, they did one for me and then I went away to see how it looked in different lights, there was no pressure to buy immediately (this was in Canada, I live in London, so not sure where you'd go or how they would be, but give it a go). Good luck.

I love love love MAC Select Tints, they're great! They aren't very heavy, but cover really well and it lasts and is very easy to reapply is for some reason you have to do a touch up. And you get a really natural look, not a manikin face at all. If you have a major blemish, I would use the foundation first, then use a bit over cover-up on the blemish and then blend in a bit more foundation for an even look and then you’re good to go!

Estee Lauder Maximum Cover will give absolutely flawless coverage and still look naturally perfect with your skin colour. You will be stunned at the results.
For a finish that is one step lighter, go for Estee Lauder Double Wear. Both foundations are incredible and you won't look at another one again. Add a light dusting of Clinique pressed powder over the top of either one for the icing on the cake!

I have found a wonderful foundation (and I am really fussy) called Couvrance and it is made by Avene. It is in a compact and you apply it with a sponge. The coverage is wonderful and really evens out the skin tone - in fact it makes your skin look like porcelain. It stays put all day but doesn't look heavy. I guarantee if you try it you wont need to look for a better foundation. I always get mine in Boots.

SOTHY'S make up is fab use the Teint Oxylience if you have young/oily skin which it sounds like you might or the Anti ageing one which I use. Also another tip which goes for any foundation make sure u apply with a foundation brush as using a sponge just wipes it back off again and fingers is unhygeinic.
U can build up the layers with a good brush too.
Good luck

I have acne rosacea and I wear Almay Clear Complexion Foundation and concealer and use Rimmel Clear Complexion powder over it. It covers redness and blemishes, it goes on really smooth and even and lasts all day. I've recently been using Olay Total Effects Anti Blemish moisturiser before putting on my foundation and my skin looks loads better and it makes a really good base under the foundation.

If i were you id take myself down to Bodyshop where you can ask for a makeover. They are excellent and will show you which products will suit you best by judging your skin tone, appearance etc. At least that way you can see for yourself that its made an improvement to your skin.
There is so much makeup out there these days but not all work as they say they will. Id rather try before i buy.....and Bodyshop products are quite good...
Take Care
