Fags yes and they should ban them never mind having a new age limit of 18, on alcohol the new law is that you have to look 21, if you have no id to say that you are 18 then you have to look 21 or something like that.

No it's not true. Now you have to look 18 to buy cigerettes but if you provide ID to prove your 16+ you will be served.
The same with alcohol. Without ID you have to look 21. It's to prevent underage people drinking or smoking. It's not the law.

Unless you happen to live on the island of Jersey, cigarettes can still be bought at age 16. The Government is looking at raising this age (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/5134218.stm) but it would take a while for this to happen (it needs to get through consultation, parliament, even then it would not be law immediately until all shopkeepers had been told..) so no, I think this shopkeeper was deliberately being annoying!

The government is considering increasing the age for tobacco to 18, but haven't done so yet. It certainly wouldn't be 'unconstituitional'.

i dont mind about the cigerettes but alcohol would suck....... just as im about to be able to buy it legaly.....i dont think they will move it.....fingers crossed
