I have just started playing the guitar and just wandered what other people recommended as I haven't got "the ear" for music as yet.

Thanks for the help

I would say it depends what sort of general pop/ rock you're talking about. If you're talking about solo performance by you and a guitar, stick with an acoustic, steel string guitar as this will give you the volume and tone you need to acompany yourself whilst singing. In a band context I'd say any Stratocaster style copy would cut it for the poppy end of rock but for real tone and beef you'd need a les-paul style. Try out the Squier range for Fender type guitars and the Epiphone range for Gibson types. Also try out Vintage - distributed by JHS as they have a good range of affordable guitars. If you're just starting out, you need to keep to a budget as it might turn out you'd be better playing drums or something!

Yes the only differences in uitar are tones. Effects aka the pedals are what realyl can change the sounds. Is this your first guitar? If so I wouldn't recomend getting one such expensive as that one I would start much lower like a Gibson SG or Les Paul or a normal Fender Stratocaster.

if you like rock n pop music the best way to go is to find yourself an electric guitar, a les paul, or a fender type. if you want something unplug a good acoustic folk guitar will do just fine.
P.S. make sure the distance of the string from the fret board is not that high.(action)

I have a Fender Spattercaster and a Gibson Les Paul Custom and I much prefer the Gibson for general all round performance.

Fenders are usually universal with all musical genres

Deans are also good, they have a clean and crisp sound quality.

Gibsons are also good for all types of Genres

ESP is a great guitar, it has a good crunchy tone and awesome body styles. however it is more gear towards metal and hardrock

It all depends on your preference

The Fender Telecaster has gained a major resurgence in recent years. Its tone has a very broad appeal and it also has a nice slim neck for delicate female hands.

Here's where I'd start-

Check out Fender guitars, they tend to be good for both genres.
