We have had, but are rapidly losing, freedom of speech in the UK. The PC brigade / humanists are in the process of stamping out all views contrary to their own, esp the historically dominant Christian worldview, upon which most of the free world was founded (USA and England are prime examples). The irony of all this is that it is done in the name of free speech / tolerance. However, they (the PC brigade) are the most intolerant of the lot as they do not tolerate views contrary to their own. In practical terms, it goes like this: "We the PC brigade hereby declare that there are no absolutes and that there is no truth, except of course for the absolute truth that their are no absolutes. Accordingly, no religion or other worldview has the right to state that it is true to the exclusion of others, though we (the PC brigade) of course believe that OUR PC views are true to the exclusion of all others". The true threat to freedom is now the fundamental PC brigade. How ironic, don't ya think?

No, if we did people would not be so quick to hit, or try to have a lawsuit because someone said something to offend. Our freedom of speech should let us say waht we want and not have reprocussions for that action. But we as a society have gotten so politically correct that it makes sick. I think we should be able to say what we feel, if it hurts someone toughen up, sometimes the truth hurts

Are you kidding me? With Political Correctness and its conduits running rampant; everyone getting "offended" whenever anyone utters a less than neutral word; with anyone speaking his/her mind being branded as "mean spirited and hurtful (fists clenched, knees bent, spoiled little girl voice), not to mention the microcosmic bastion of PC, Y!Answers playing their little imitation of life games, passing their politically correct judgments over anything people say on the forum and deleting (a literary form of killing) them from the forum anytime they state opinions contrary to theirs, with the decidedly liberal, politically correct media mandating their idea of what is right, free speech is all but dead. Makes one want to puke sometimes.

You have freedom over anything - it is your choice if you adhere to the accepted 'norms, values and so on' or choose to do, say and act how you want to and deal with the either positive or negative consequences. So, basically it's your choice.

assuming you mean the UK, No
but what we have is pretty close.
I would prefer it if our culture was a bit more like the americans, with regard to freedom of speech; but the again, there's an awful lot about american culture that is pretty dire.
It could be worse..... a lot, lot worse

On unimportant topics yes we do, But it seems that when the topics are important and we would like to give our point-a-view about it it is wrong. I think that as long as we respect others and not discriminate against them then we should be aloud to speak freely & openly to the people and tell them our opinions on certain subjects with out them banning or discrimanating against us. If the higher officials are aloud to speak freely then we should be aloud to as well.
This is my opinion.

Not if you are an ethnic Brit, that is white and from a christian upbringing, you are only allowed to say nice things or nothing, even if they are true.

To a point. When your speech becomes harmful to others, then you lose your rights to it.
