MOST ANIMALS IN THE WILD WILL EAT WHAT EVER IS AVAILABLE..THEY DONT KNOW WHEN THE NEXT MEAL WILL ARRIVE

2006-11-21 00:18:18 · answer #1 · answered by michael b 5 · 0 0

(1) by definition, all meat starts decomposing right after it has died. So any animal that eats non-live meat, eats decomposing meat.

(2) we human beings tend to prefer our meat rather less decomposed (though most meat typically "ages" - i.e. decomposes in a controlled environment - for 1 to 2 weeks before we eat it, and some special meats such as venison are "aged" for longer periods.

(3) as for the other, less picky animals? A lion, or a leopard, or a bear, and other predators will obviously make their first meal of freshly killed meat. But they'll typically go back in the following days, and eat decomposing meat. A crocodile will do the same (and the meat, stored somewhere in the water, will decompose faster). And then scavengers will typically be even less picky.

Hope this helps

Maggots eat only rotten flesh. This makes them ideal for treating deep, otherwise unhealable sores. This, believe it or not, is a recognised medical procedure!
Rotten eggs and rotten herring are regarded as a delicacy in some cultures.
And here's a recipe for fish sauce from 400BC!
'take the intestines from the fish both large and small, soak with vinegar, leave in the sun to decay and pour off the liquor'
Think it was called 'Bosca'- used widely by the greeks and the romans.
Modern times..hanging of game enabled maggots and bacteria to tenderise the flesh.
Two weeks in warm weather..three in cold. Have even heard of burying a haunch of venison in the garden for a month!

Well many insects like Carrion beetles, burying beetles and many flesh flies feed on decomposing meat at a certain stage of their lives, with no exceptions.
Vultures eat rotting meat only, they have adapted a great sense of smell to find this nasty food from miles away.

Crocodiles will take a life animal or human and take them deep down into the water , they will wait until the person, animal rots and then eat it. I don't know if this is just an old-wifes tale but that is what i was told.

Fish , crayfish likes rotting meat as well, that is why you find corpses with flesh missing, the crayfish and fish nibble at it. Really.

Most wild animals.

Vultures and other wierdy birds like that

Maggots (disgusting) do too but they also infest live meat if the weather conditions are right. eg damp and humid.

Badgers however are veggies.

I've never seen the Host. I'm not really into those horror films.

Yes, they are called carrion eaters, buzzards to name one, and some insects and marine animals, not to mention various types of bacteria that initiate the decomposition.

Carrion crows can often be seen by the side or motorways scavenging the roadkill animals.
