There are two types of dates on food products Best before and Use By if it is the Best Before date that has expired they can sell it at a discounted price but the customer must be advised that this date has expired and that there may be some loss of product quality.
If it is a Use By date it is illegal for it to be sold as it is no longer fit for human consumption as bacteria inside it could have reached dangerous levels. Some company's treat both labels as the same thing and dispose of the product as soon as the date expires. This is the same for any products you have at home if BB date has expired use as quickly as possible if UB then throw it away. Hope this helps

I do not know but it is easy to find out. Call your local board of health and ask to talk to the person assigned to inspect food vendors. It probably varies by product. Milk may be different than bread depending how the board of health view the dangerousness of different stale merchandise.

there are 2 dates, 'best before' and 'use before'
'use before' cannot even be given away !! not even to staff
best before goods are ok to eat but they are not usually sold off after the date by supermarkets, they are the kind they would let their staff take either free or cheaply
the 'best before' date is a disgraceful waste of food when people just chuck it

Like my commonplace keep "abode deals/ high quality keep, they have a load of inventory presented from the producers and promote it dirt low-cost. Their Easter Eggs were a million/2 food market value this week and that i have taken income of it. It should be an overload of stuff that they could't get rid of and so promote it off to shops more cost-effective. i have stated that Easter eggs are ridiculously low-cost this 12 months, they purely promote them at decreased value after Easter to get rid of overload.

It is legal to sell out of date goods as long as its clearly marked as out of date.
The supermarket can even sell at the normal price if they wanted to. Out of date stuff can be perfectly usable - like tinned foods or even bread.
Just don't buy out of date meat, etc.

depends, out of date, or best by date..
out of date means u have to eat it before that day ,,
Best by date , means its the best time to eat it, but can still be stored and eaten at a later date, but quality and taste is not so good ..
so out of date is not allowed to be sold.. best by date is.

Yes, they have to take it off the shelves, they should reduce it before the best before date to get rid of it.
