for all the all the ***** out there thinking im racist, i am writing a paper for my degree about physiological responses to different envirments. Im comparing people of different ethnicity. The reason people i asked the question was becase it just so happens so happens black people from the carriabean and Africa have different responses. So i needed a term which emcompassed people from these regions. Just putting black is not scientific enough and may make the paper look unprofessional.

Black !

I get so upset when someone tries to be " Politically Correct" they come off to me as more of a racist than trying to protect the feelings of people.

I"m Black, not Afro American, Not African American, Not you people, the other color, Just Black.

Dont feel funny saying Black

The lady from, or the gentleman from, the young lady from, or the young man from, an address, a work place, or a community group, mr. Jones from, mrs. Jones from etc. I find a desire to be Politically correct using African etc. is misleading as Creation started there, so we all fit into that description, also as in black there are many shades of brown, as there are many shades of white, try buying a can of paint, (white) then see if you have ever seen anyone looking like it, I think the desire to be respectful of each other, and being genuine in behavior, would enhance a description that in the end will be politically correct, and none offensive of each other, loving your neighbor will bring you the answer, and for sure some personal joy. Thanks for your candor and for trying to pose the question tactfully if, in fact, that was your intent. Let's see if I can help.

First, the people in question are of African origin. American, Black, Black American, African - or Afro-American are all labels used almost exclusively in America by Americans. If the person is an American citizen, he will usually be okay with either of them.

Now, oftentimes 'black' people from other nations identify more strongly with the culture of the nation in which they live and should really be identified by their nationality. Black Englishmen don't need anyone to point out to them that they are 'black'; they know. Black Jamaicans are Jamaicans, Black Germans are Germans, and that is how they identify. Consequently, if you know a 'black' man from Nigeria, he is Nigerian.

Look, you seem pretty open-minded. So I'll tell you this -- the Black American experience doesn't apply to everyone of African descent, so you can't just lump us all together. I'm a German/Jewish American, I'm Black and I love it all, so I don't need anyone to bring it to my attention. I hope I've been of some help.

Depends on the context. Sometimes stating the persons ethnicity is correct, other times the country the person was born or grew up in, or sometimes you may need to describe the colour of the skin if you describing a person whose name or other details you don't know. Perhaps asking people how they like to be referred to may be best.

What does the term 'black origin' mean?

Of the black origin, I would say African American until you know specifically which country they come from. For instance, the neighbors across the street here.. At first I called them African American and then found out they are from Ethiopia, so you would just call them Ethiopian.. Would love to read some more answers on all this..

Whats his name sure looked sincere with his apology though..
