What is all the hostility about? Every day I find an answer that refers to "stupid" or "dumb" Yanks orAamericans?
What is up with that? I NEVER hear Americans bashing the Brits. Please tell me where that comes from.
No hostile or scarcastic answers please.

Most of the people doing the bashing have never been to the US. On the other hand I have been to the UK and I gotta say the remarks behind our backs were appalling. Being rude to a visitor spending money in your country.

I don't recall the part where my question had to do with minorities.

You tend to hear that kind of stuff from foolish and ignorant people who get all their opinions second hand and never think for themselves or inform themselves. America has been a good friend to the UK and Europe in the past; think of the sacrifice the US has in the cause of freedom during two world wars. At the moment I think the policy of the US (and the UK)in Iraq is misguided and I am sure many in the UK feel the same, but that's about politics. No one should infer from that, that individual Americans are "dumb " or "stupid".

I am sorry that people are so rude to you. There is no excuse for rudeness. I am a S-African living in Uk now and it grates me when people have no manners and run's other country's down. Most of the people who does that have not even been to USA , don't know any American's and have a very low self-image. I have the same problem being a SAfrican, i straight away get accused of being a racist and always have to defend myself, i now just mention to the English they have no room to talk they should look back in History and see what they have done in SA in the past. Just ignore them and show them you are better than them. Hopefully those people will have the decency to apologise or at least feel ashamed of themselves.

Ali: you've not met me, but I'm an American who knows plenty of intelligent Brits, and not one retarded one in the bunch.
Thatmadlass: when I've visited Edinburgh I've tried not to be loud, because I dislike that in my own countrymen. You've got a beautiful city there, mile-for-mile at least as packed with history as London (more so, I'd say). But never did I accuse an electricity pylon of being the Eiffel Tower...having seen it in Paris in 1982, I didn't believe it could walk to Edinburgh that quickly :) .

Firstly, I must apaologise for the rudeness of the British, but being rude is just a way of life over here, we have a reputaion for being skeptical about anything forgien, but please take note, a lot of Americans have this idea of superiority about them. Also, a lot of British people don't like it when America claims to have won the war on their own. We also don't like it when we see a film in which the Americans always play the good guy and the British are always the posh bad guy.

I've heard Brits bashing Americans and vice versa!
Its all banter - just laugh at it!
But when the YAnks come here on holiday they piss me off in their matching shell suits, loud voices and arrogance!
I live in Edinburgh and once got asked if a nearby electricity pylon was the Iffeal Tower !!!!

I think you have a good point there. I happen to like Americans. Though we see some and it's very easy for some people then to stero-type every American as being the same.
Why though in all American movies are the British reffered to as posh? Trust me we aren't ;-)

When I hear people criticising America they tend not to refer to all American people but to the policies of the Bush administration and those Americans that voted for him who are, in the consideration of most Britosh people, a bit thick.

I dont bash anyone unless they bring it to me first.. Playing on xbox live tho, thats a whole different story.. I'd say 60% of the guys in the US are cool, play the games etc etc but the rest, they slate so much and are sooo racist! I wasnt aware of the feelings of the minority until I played on there, shocking.
