I know I will use them....why would I stand SO MUCH pain when I can do something to relieve it? That doesn't make me less of a mom...it's just a personal choice.

I feel that whatever works for the mother and baby is great!!! 2 stories on both...
My first one I was in labor for 2 days. I had labored at home (only dialated at a 2). I went to the hospital where the dr informed nurse to give a morphine shot and sent me home at 2 am. I slept great (as did the hubby who was VERY happy at this time) until about 10:00 am on 5oct00. I had dialated to an 8 but didn't know this. The pain was SO intense that I went to the hospital. I was informed by the nurse very nastily that I waited too long and couldn't get any meds. Once they broke my water (15 min after checkin) I progressed to 9 and didn't budge for 4 hours until the nurse massaged my perineum. I think she started massaging due to Tony being in distress (his cord was later to be found wrapped around is shoulder like a backpack strap). The worst pain is the urge to push but is forbidden to push. Tony was born at 4:15 pm (only pushed for 15 minutes. I feel that if I had some form of pain control it would have been a little easier to "progress"
The youngest was induced at 7:00 am with Pitocin. Pitocin was halted at 1400 due to intense contraction. I recieved a Stadol shot at 1500. I put a bid in for epidural at 1730 (finally dialated to 4). Fell in love with anesthesiologist at 1900 when recieved epidural (still a 4) due to high rate of requests. My water was broken at 1930. At 2000 was ready to push and dialated to 10. Had to wait for the dr to come...Pushed for 5 mins (the nurses was VERY surprised) and had K at 9:15 pm.
With both my children they were contemplating ceasarean's due to failure to progress. The epidural or any pain management technique relaxes the mother to let the Mother Nature do her work. I have a lot of respect for anyone that makes this decision. All depends on what is going on with the labor and delivery. Do a lot of investigation and base you decision on fact and not what everyone else is doing or feels.

I went into the whole pregnancy thing with this in mind - if the doctor's told me I needed something, I'd take it (I was a high-risk pregnancy, with his blood pressure). If I decided I wanted something, I could have it.
As it turned out, things progressed so quickly that when I asked for drugs, they told me it was too late, and my son was born about 30 minutes later.
If I do it again, I have the same plan. I know it can be done without drugs - it was done that way for centuries - but I'm really the only one who can decide I want them (unless deemed medically necessary).

I had my first 10 mo. ago and only had some sadol (sp). It was a long labor and the most painful part is after the baby crowns. From then on it doesn't last long. You can do it! Just make sure someone is there telling you your doing good, and comforting you.

I like to think I could do it without drugs and hope to deliver in a birthing center so drugs won't even be an option. But I certainly understand why some women do use drugs.

I'm 17 weeks pregnant with my first and I plan on getting an epidural. I'd rather enjoy the birth as much as possible, and I don't think I will be able to enjoy my first few moments with my little one if I haven't had some sort of pain relief.

I had an epidural with both my kids. If God wanted women to suffer during labor he wouldn't have given us the power to invent drugs to help us. That's my take on it. Kids were fine, I was fine, no problems!

I was in labor for close to 17 hours before they took my son C-section. I was induced and had an epideral and slept through all of my labor.
Not everyone is this lucky but it was nice for me.

I'm 39 weeks pregnant and most DEFINITELY plan on getting an epidural as I have a very low tolerance for pain.
